Marc: So, Dan. How do you feel about being Hitachi Vantara’s only platinum partner in Australia? Dan: It’s fantastic, Marc. You know, for Perfekt, the Hitachi Vantara partnership was a no-brainer. Like you, our team believes that data has the power not only to transform the future of business, but society as a whole. This really is a great time to be in technology and seeking others who think beyond ‘the possible’.

Marc: A lot of that possibility is down to the world’s ever-growing data streams, right? A lot of that possibility is down to the world’s ever-growing data streams, right?Dan: Absolutely. Company information is growing at an exponential rate. Within that data, is the key to discovering new and better ways of doing things. The story of every company’s past and future is written in its data. Their efficiencies, innovations, opportunities and customer experiences. Even their wins, losses and risks. Intelligent businesses are realising their data holds precious insights, which they can use to make more strategic and profitable business decisions. Absolutely.

Marc: But, data doesn’t just provide a one-off benefit. It’s kind of like the gift that keeps on giving, isn’t it?

Dan: For sure. Unlike traditional assets, the value of our data grows over time, creating a powerful source of insight that gives companies an ongoing competitive advantage. Again, it enables businesses to gain the upper hand in driving innovation, transforming customer experiences and unlocking new revenue streams, all with the certainty that their organisation will grow safely and securely.

Marc: So, what sort of data are we talking about leveraging here?

Dan: We’re talking about data in every shape and form—digital and physical. ‘Big data’ within the walls of data centres or private and public clouds, and data across all critical business applications. But, on top of that, the Internet of Things (IoT). Fridges, watches, thermostats, cars, shipping containers, lift buttons and light switches all have sensors that connect to the Internet, and each other, to collect and transmit data. When we combine IoT with big data, human data and other information sources, things get really exciting. That’s when we see the entire story.

Marc: The trick is to be able to unlock all of that data though, right?

Dan:  Exactly. But, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to do so. There’s more data available to inspire and enlighten businesses than ever before. But, it’s also locked away in more devices, systems and silos than a lot of companies can handle. When they are able to access their data, companies often find it is without context and meaning. That, combined with data that doesn’t interrelate, can make it difficult to understand the complete picture, and therefore difficult for the business to generate actionable insights.

Marc: This is where businesses struggle to move forward on their data journey, isn’t it?

Dan: Yep. For many organisations, this type of data discipline is relatively new. So, when they encounter hurdles, they can get discouraged or stop moving forward altogether. It’s important to remember that every data journey is comprised of many milestones. By focusing on each stage of unlocking, enriching and analysing data, companies can get their innovations to market much faster than their competitors.

Marc: In addition to focus, this takes a level of skill, right?

Dan: True. Some organisations may not have these skills in-house. For them, the fastest, easiest and most secure way to get ahead is to partner up with an experienced technology provider. Someone they can trust to manage, secure, integrate and analyse all of their data efficiently.

Marc: I guess that’s why so many businesses come to Perfekt and Hitachi Vantara!

Dan: That’s right! They know we live for this!

Marc: So, what would you say to a CIO, CTO, COO or CFO who wants to optimise their business’ profits and longevity?

Dan: I’d say that data is their most strategic and profitable asset. But, to maximise their return on it, they need to partner with a trusted technology partner who can support every step of their data journey.
