Proof of Concepts
The Proof of Concept and Development Phase plays a key role in the entire VMware Server deployment process. This phase uses the information obtained in the Assessment Phase to conduct an initial Proof of Concept and further testing of select applications to confirm their virtualisation performance and compatibility. The information gathered in this phase is also used to create a project plan detailing the implementation and deployment processes required for each server application instance.
This Phase ensures that all potential risks and constraints for each application to be virtualised are discovered prior to the movement of the physical environment to a virtualised production environment. This Phase is also used to develop a timeline for the implementation of the Production environment.
The Key steps taken in the Proof of Concept and Development phase are:
Identification of the target application servers to be virtualised as part of the POC and development stage.
Production and Implementation of a Proof of Concept for building the chosen virtual infrastructure solution in a test/development environment. This will include monitoring, functionality testing, identification of any issues and the problem resolution.
Completion of a detailed Project Plan for the full deployment of the virtualization solution into the organisation. This includes the processes required for migration of Physical servers to Virtual servers, Hardware Supply, Software Supply, Installation and Configuration, Resource Requirements, Tasks, Milestones and Timelines for the chosen VMware Server Solution.
